NEWS
RAMblings JUNE 2007
Programme Correction
As advised in the last newsletter the event scheduled for June 9 should read Saturday June 9.
Working Bee
There will be a working bee on Sunday July 1st commencing at 10am. Major activities will include building/installing new target frames for field rifle, repositioning the rimfire ram stands, installing centrefire chicken stands and weeding. Please bring appropriate tools etc - digging implements, carpentry tools, trailers etc. As always, a free BBQ lunch will be provided to workers.
The attendance at the last working bee was very poor with most of the attendees being from the list on the right of this page. We hope to see more volunteers this time.
State Titles
The SSAA Rifle Metallic Silhouette SA Titles were held at the club in March. Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all those who helped during the weekend, especially the caterers.
National Titles
The SSAA Rifle Metallic Silhouette National Titles will be hosted at MMSRC over the October long weekend. This is a great opportunity for the club and all the members. As well as the excellent competition it is also a very good fundraising activity for the club. Of course there will be lots of work required before and during the event. We will keep you informed. Preliminary information and the nomination form are on the club website.
Sunday 22nd July
Members of SA Field & Game Central Branch will be visiting MMSRC on 22/7/07 to try rimfire field rifle and silhouette. This is one of our programmed shoots and we encourage everyone to come along and participate in the shoot and assist the visitors. Earlier in the year some of the MMSRC members went to Central Branch for an excellent day of Sporting Clays shooting.
SAPOL Inspections
Local SAPOL officers are currently conducting inspections of licensed firearms
owners; many SSAA members including MMSRC members have already been inspected.
Apparently the checks include compliance with storage requirements and comparison
of firearms held against registration records. They are often turning up unannounced.
RAMblings MARCH 2007
State Titles
The SSAA Rifle Metallic Silhouette SA Titles will be held at the club on March 10, 11 & 12. All the details are on our website and in the February issue of Australian Shooter. All members should consider participating in the titles - you compete in your grade so everyone has a chance at winning a medal. We'll also be looking for volunteers to assist with various activities including range officers, scorer, target details, catering, spotting and more. Please contact the President or just turn up if you can help.
Working Bee
On the 4th of March commencing at 10am there will be a working bee to get everything in order for the state titles. The major projects include: positioning the rimfire ram stands, weeding, cleaning the shed, toilets and clubrooms and more. Bring appropriate equipment including shovels, picks and brooms. Lunch will be provided.
Shotgun Day
The South Australian Field and Game Association have invited our members to one of their shotgun shoots on April 1st (no, not an April Fools trick). This promises to be a great day with the opportunity to try a Sporting Clays shotgun event and interact with fellow shooters. Please wear your MMSRC membership badge and bring your firearms license. Full details are on the 2nd page of this newsletter.
Other Stuff
Programme correction - the event scheduled for June 9 should read Saturday June 9 (not Sunday). Please make this correction on your copy of the programme.

AGM Outcomes
The AGM was held earlier this month, thanks to everyone who turned up to
help with the direction of the club for another year.
- The full committee is listed in the column to the right, welcome to the
three new members - Ben, Darryl and Darian.
- The members have approved the new fee structure, raising annual membership
fees by $3-$6 per member, as we look to commit significant resources this
year to put a roof over the firing line. There are also some changes to the
range fees after reviewing the actual costs of running the events. Your renewal
notice is enclosed with this newsletter.
- The new range captains are listed below, thanks to everyone who volunteered.
A quick reminder to all members that it is the job of the range captains to
ensure that their events run smoothly. It is NOT their job to do all the work
themselves so please continue to assist with target details, scoring, setting
up and packing up etc.
Club Championship
The club championship will be held on Sunday October 22. As in previous years it will be a handicap event for centrefire and rimfire silhouette. Please bring your grading cards along. As always, the focus of this event is to get as many members as possible to participate and have fun, we hope to see you there.
Club Dinner
This year we are holding an informal club dinner on October 27 at Fontana di Trevi, 127 Pirie St Adelaide starting at 7pm. It will be a two course (plus coffee) set menu for $27, drinks will be extra. You must book for this dinner by notifying the president either by email or phone no later than Tuesday October 24.
Club Shotgun Purchase ??
Due to the increasing popularity of the shotgun event the committee is considering purchasing a club shotgun. We will only do this if there are members who would use it - please advise the president if you would use a club shotgun if we purchased one.
Don't forget about the club firearms per sale as per the August newsletter.
Written bids to the secretary no later than Friday October 20th.
Emergency Procedures
A reminder to everyone that if you ever need to dial 000 for Fire, Police
or Ambulance whilst at the club quote Map Grid Reference Number Monarto 313088.
This information is posted on the notice board in the clubroom.
First Aid
The club needs to have a few people who attend the range regularly to be qualified
in first aid in case of accidents/injuries. The club will subsidise up to
three people to complete a senior first aid course providing they are prepared
to act in this capacity at the club. Please contact the President for more
info, prior to commencing a training course. We have purchased a club first
aid kit and it is kept in the shed.
Pistol Shooting?
A number of members indicated at the AGM that they would like to shoot some
form of handguns. To assist with planning could all those interested please
contact Dave Bennett on 0406 027 618 or email at pabenet59@hotmail.com. It
is anticipated that the event will probably start with rimfire shot at paper

RAMblings AUGUST. 2006
The Range
Finally, the SSAA(SA) funded earthworks are complete and hopefully we will no longer have problems with water on the range. There is still quite a bit of work for us to do to get the range fully operational again. The most important is building/installing the target stands for rimfire rams and field rifle. Stay tuned for news on a working bee.
Events
The centrefire and rimfire SSAA Rifle Metallic Silhouette State Titles were held at the club in May. The results have been posted on the website and medals have been distributed. The air-rifle event will be held at the Para range on Saturday 28th October. Full details should appear in future issues of Australian Shooter
The SSAA National Rifle Metallic Silhouette Championships are being hosted by SSAA Snowy River Branch from Sept 29 - Oct 2.
Our annual club championship will be on Sunday October 22nd. As in previous years this will be a handicap event for both rimfire and centrefire silhouette. The focus of this event is participation as much as competition - thanks to the handicap system anybody can win. It would be great to see a big turnout.
AGM
As per the official notification on the club programme, the Annual General Meeting will be held at the clubrooms at 1pm on Sunday September the 10th. It is important that as many members as possible attend the meeting (and not just to make quorum) - we need to report on the activities of the past 12 months, elect a new committee & other positions including range captains, set the fee structure, and discuss any general business.
You are reminded that nominations for election to office should be submitted in writing to the secretary and be signed by a proposer, seconder and nominee.
The AGM will be preceded by rimfire metallic silhouette and followed by a shotgun shoot - a great opportunity to try out the new clay-thrower we recently purchased.
First Aid Course
The club needs to have a few people who attend the range regularly to be qualified in first aid in case of accidents/injuries. The club will subsidise up to three people to complete a senior first aid course providing they are prepared to act in this capacity at the club. Please contact the President for more info, prior to commencing a training course. We have purchased a club first aid kit and this will be kept in the shed. If you use any items from it please notify the committee immediately so that it can be restocked.
Reminders
The new range sign-in book is kept in the white box under the veranda (along with the range flags). You must sign in each time you attend the range to comply with SAPOL requirements and also to be covered by insurance.
Flags & Shackles - if you bring the range flags in at the end of the shoot please leave the shackles attached to the flags, not the ropes on the poles.
SSAA Membership Fees for Juniors
SSAA(SA) has launched a new campaign to encourage more juniors and families into the sport - it will pay the Junior SSAA membership fee for children (up to 18 years of age) of any adult SSAA member in SA. Contact the secretary for details.
Club Firearms
The club has purchased two new rimfire rifles - CZ453 American Classics. They will be fitted with Bushnell target scopes and will shortly be available for use by members and visitors.
As part of the rationalisation of our club firearms we will be selling a number of firearms as details below. Contact the armourer for further information or to arrange inspection. A number of second-hand scopes will also be on display for sale at future shoots. Initially, the sale of rifles is only open to members.
All rifles will be sold by blind auction as follows. Bids for any rifle must
be submitted in writing (email is OK) to the secretary no later than Friday
20 October. Each bidder can submit three bids (per rifle) and if one of their
bids is the highest then they will be the successful bidder. If the successful
bidder has the two (or even three) highest bids then it will be the lowest
of those bids that will be accepted, provided it is above the reserve.

Rangeworks
The earthworks on the 200m section of the range have commenced and should be completed in the next couple of weeks. It is hoped that there will be no interference with programmed shoots however mid-week shooting will not be possible until the earthworks are complete.
State Titles
The centrefire and rimfire events for the SSAA Rifle Metallic Silhouette State Titles will be held at the MMSRC range on May 6 & 7. We encourage everyone to attend and compete. It is a fun weekend with an opportunity to compete against others in your grade. If you don't want to or cannot compete we will be looking for volunteers to assist with target details, catering, range officer duties etc. Or just come along to watch some great shooting. The programme is as follows:
Sat May 6 at 9am - 80 shot rimfire match followed by 40 shot centrefire hunter
match
Sun May 7 at 9am - 80 shot centrefire match followed by 40 shot rimfire hunter
match
You are welcome to camp at the range Friday & Saturday nights so stay for the weekend, enjoy a few drinks around the campfire in the evening and dine on Pat's excellent tucker.
Don't forget to bring your grading cards.
The air-rifle events will be held at the Para range later in the year.
Working Bee
Saturday April 29 starting at 10am there will be a working bee at the club. There is plenty to do to get ready for the state titles. Please bring whipper snippers, shovels, rakes, brooms, workgloves, general hand tools etc.
New phone number
Dave Bennett will now only be contactable on his mobile phone - 0406 027
618.
Range Rules & Sign-in Procedures
We are about to introduce a new sign-in procedure to comply with SAPOL requirements. A hard covered book will be stored in the white box where the flags are kept. Everyone will be required to sign this book each time they attend the range. This includes all members and visitors including non-shooters. Children will also be required to sign in, parents can do so for those too young to sign. For security reasons we will have no names/addresses in the book, members will sign in against their SSAA number.
As you will have noticed our range officers now wear a bright orange vest so they are clearly identifiable. This is a SAPOL requirement which must be observed for all shoots, including mid-week. A vest will be kept in the white box with the flags.
The range rules have been updated to reflect these changes and a copy is included with this newsletter. All members are expected to be familiar with them.
Lock-up Procedures
A reminder of the procedures to follow if you are locking up at the end of
the day:
- Switch off the microwave, the pie-warmer, the hot-water system and the water
pump in the kitchen
- General tidy/cleanup
- Put the PA system away and switch off at powerpoint
- Switch off all lights
- Put all flags, the attendee book and the range officer's vest in the white
box
- Put all equipment away in the shed
- Lock the clubroom door, the shed and the toilets
- Close the gate
Club Firearms
The committee & armourer have decided to rationalise our club firearms. Consequently we will shortly be selling several of the existing rifles - rimfires and break action & match air rifles. A number of second hand scopes will also be available for sale, mostly old 4x scopes. The match air-rifles will be sold by blind auction and all goods will initially only be offered to members. Details of the sales will be published shortly.
We intend to keep 4 match air-rifles, buy two new rimfires and convert one of the existing rimfire rifles to junior configuration. All will be equipped with target scopes & will be available for use by members and visitors.
Powder Storage
Recent advice in the Great Southern Land Newsletter about the allowable quantities
of propellants that an individual may store for their own use was incorrect.
According to current SA regulations the maximum quantity of propellant that
can be stored by an individual for their own use is 3kg. This includes smokeless
powders (such as the ADI rifle propellants) and blackpowder (there is no separate
quantity limit for blackpowder).
